To walk worthy means to grow in the fruit of the Spirit ( Gal. We want to live as vessels who honor God. Walking worthy should affect our thought life, attitudes, words and actions. Calling includes this, but living godly lives is the main aspect-even in the mundane, daily activities of life. What a beautiful invitation He has given us!Ĭalling does not mean doing certain assignments for the Lord only. This is how we should live in response to what Christ has done for us. Seek to honor Him in every way and at every opportunity. I urge you to embrace the invitation God gave when He saved you by living for Him. The calling referred to speaks of God’s invitation to embrace what He has done for us in salvation. Second, the word worthy refers to living in a godly manner. It speaks of making due use of opportunities. The word walk from the Greek means to live, to regulate or conduct one’s life and self. So what does it mean to walk worthy? What It Means to Walk Worthy The text urges us- calls, summons and admonishes us-to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord. “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3 (ESV) It is in response to this that Paul writes Ephesians 4:1-3: His main prayer is for them to know the depths of Christ’s love as well as the work of God’s power within them. The letter admonishes to do as Ephesians 4:1 says: Live in a manner worthy of the calling of God.Īt the end of chapter 3, Paul prays for the Ephesian believers.

One practice I see that could be a little more dignified is omitting the abbreviated reference “cremains.” Whenever possible, appropriate means for recording with dignity the memory of the decased should be adopted, such as a plaque or stone which records the name of the deceased. The practice of scattering cremated remains on the sea, from the air, or on the ground, or keeping cremated remains in the home of a relative or friend of the deceased are not the reverent disposition that the Church requires. The cremated remains should be buried in a grave or entombed in a mausoleum or columbarium. This includes the use of a worthy vessel to contain the ashes, the manner in which they are carried, the care and attention to appropriate placement and transport, and the final disposition. The cremated remains of a body should be treated with the same respect given to the human body from which they come.
